Being a Renaissance Man takes a lot out of you.. There are so many things I am involved in outside of work that its a wonder I have time for myself. But actually, all the things I do outside of work are truly fun for me. I think you'll underdstand a bit more why people like to visit my office. I have tokens of everything I do all around the place and my visitors always find something new about me when they stop by. Here are just a few of things I enjoy:
The Imperial Court of New York is a not-for-profit organization that has raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for more than a decade. It has gained recognition in the tri-state area and in particular in the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Community as the most dazzling hard workers in the community.
I joined the Court in June of 2005 and enjoy it immensely. My present status is that of Viscount. I was elevated in the recent Investitures Ceremony.
The Elegant Arts Society was created by friends who enjoy dancing the way it was done in a more gentler society, the English Regency. As a charter member, I enjoy dressing the part and dancing as it was performed in ballrooms and country houses long ago. Our primary mission is to promote historically accurate Regency era social dance. Secondarily we support and promote historical dance in other periods ranging from the 15th through the early 20th centuries.
The world of Science Fiction is often misunderstood. When people think of "sci-fi" they almost automatically think "Star Trek". While the Star Trek universe is certainly part of it, there is so much more. I attend both regional conventions and a one week-long convention (WorldCon) to meet the famous and not-so-famous people in the sci-fi realm. Honored guests have included Issac Asimov, Terry Pratchett, and Hal Clement. I had the honor of meeting Issac (Dr. Asimov) at a local Philadelphia convention several years ago.
