Consortium
The Consortium for Pre-College Education in Greater Newark is a
collaboration among East Orange, Irvington and the Newark school
districts and the New Jersey Institute of Technology, Rutgers-Newark
College of Arts and Sciences and the University of Medicine and
Dentistry of New Jersey . Funded by the New Jersey Commission on Higher
Education since 1986, the Consortium's aim is to work together to
provide educational programs and college-bound activities for over four
hundred fifty (450) students in seventh through twelfth grade. Our
population is more often low-income, Black and/or Latino and the first

in pre-college preparation is toward college admission. Academic areas
of instruction in mathematics (pre algebra through calculus), science
(general through chemistry), English (grammar, essay, literature),
computer literacy, technology (general through pre-engineering) and
study skills are offered by the program. In fifteen years of operation,
some five hundred (500) students participating in the program have
graduated from high school with more than eighty percent (80%) attending
college.
