Mission
The READY Program at Rutgers University – Newark assists READY participants in becoming successful by providing student support services and access to economic and educational opportunities.

Vision
In acknowledging the READY pledge and preparing for the future of the READY Program:

READY participants will actively contribute to the advancement of Newark youth.

This vision includes the establishment of the READY Alumni Association to provide its members the opportunity to embrace community-oriented initiatives.

Program Description
The READY Program is a comprehensive intervention program for Newark students to achieve academic success. Since its inception, the program has expanded its services to provide scholarship assistance for selected cohorts of Newark students. The READY Program has served over 1,000 Newark students and continues to provide support services for READY participants completing training programs and/or undergraduate degrees. In July of 2005, the READY Program moved its operations to Rutgers University—Newark to strengthen its long standing support of READY participants. As the READY Program prepares for its future in the establishment of the READY Alumni Association, the program will not enroll additional students.

History
The READY Program was started in 1987 and has a long and memorable history. Having first been coordinated as a pilot program by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark, Inc., the READY program was established to assist a cross-section of Newark youth to realize their full potential. The program provided students, many of whom faced significant challenges, with a network of valuable resources. The resources encompassed social, academic, and financial support for education.

Alumni
The READY Alumni Association meets on a monthly basis to discuss initiatives to promote community service, mentoring, leadership development, and partnerships within the city of Newark. For further information, please contact Jim Oliphant.
