Glass City
Exhibition dates: May 31 – July 27, 2006

Opening Reception: May 31, 4 – 7pm

What cracks and crumbles, cuts and shines, and is evidence of luxury and chaos?

Spirit catchers, unwanted grains of it on the city streets, which represent our hopes and dreams, our triumphs and our failures. Like it, we too are fragile
but capable—the raw material that can add up to beautiful things.

Glass City recycles the most potent symbol of urban blight and ancient wealth into monuments of hope.

—Willie Cole

A collaborative project between GlassRoots, Inc. and the Paul Robeson Gallery, Glass City features a crystal city created by Newark-area youth, under the guidance of renowned New Jersey artist Willie Cole.
