Rutgers University libraries: research & reference gateway: business,
Internet Resource
http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/rr_gateway/research_guides/busi/business.shtml
Reviewed in 2001 March CHOICE.
Created by business librarians at Rutgers University, this clearly
organized site, a recipient of The Argus Clearinghouse's Digital
Librarian's Award, is intended to provide a basic list of Internet
resources for all areas of business research. Works cited are
authoritative and reliable. A special feature for undergraduate business
students is the "starting points" subsection under the topics Company
Research, Industry Research, and Market Research. The site's content
includes search tips, starting points for research, reference works,
guides, scope notes, archives, and periodicals. The guide contents are
arranged alphabetically and constitute a broad treatment of the topic.
Pages load at moderate speed and were updated within the last six months.
Most topic areas contain a navigation aid at the top of the screen titled
"page contents," which allows users to determine quickly the page's scope.
A somewhat comparable site is the University of Pennsylvania Library's Web
Sites by Subject--Business
(http://www.library.upenn.edu/resources/subject/business/subj-business.html?business);
while offering a very select list of sites, it lacks the helpful starting
points. Another broader, comparable site is Berkeley Business Guide No.
18: Internet Resources in Business & Economics
(http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/BUSI/bbg18.html); although this site
contains starting points, it does not tailor them to specific research
areas. Undergraduate students will find the Rutgers site useful for
researching business topics, and graduate students will find the Links to
Working Papers in Business subsection, listed under the General Business
section, a valuable resource. Practitioners will appreciate the excellent
resources on writing business plans in the Financing Your Business section
as well as the extensive links to family and home-based businesses in the
Small Business & Entrepreneurship section. Recommended for academic and
professional readership. --- E. Truax, University of North Texas
