COLLABORATIONS WITH RUTGERS - NEWARK
PROGRAMS
WATCHING CAREFULLY
A
media literacy program offering a screening and discussion
series at the Newark Public Library and a series of media
awareness and production workshops for Newark Boys and Girls
Clubs. This initiative was developed by Dr. Miriam Petty in
consultation with Professor Leo Aristimuño and
sponsored by the Institute on Ethnicity,
Culture, and the Modern Experience, Rutgers –
Newark. Professor Aristimuño was invited to produced
the video content for the project.
ABBOTT LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE YOUTH JOURNALISTS SUMMER
PROGRAM
A summer program teaching journalism skills to high school
students from Newark Public Schools. The program was
organized and sponsored by Dr. Junius Wilson, Director of the
Abbott Leadership Institute at Rutgers - Newark. Professor
Aristimuño was invited to develop the video production
component of the program. He also guided students through the
production of a series of photo essays and video letters
addressing pressing social issues.
