Robert R. Stieglitz, Ph.D. (Brandeis University, 1971) teaches
courses on Near Eastern archaeology, the Bible as literature, law in the ancient
Near East, and ancient Jewish civilization. He has directed archaeological
excavations in Greece and Israel, and conducted archaeological surveys throughout
the Mediterranean world. His archaeological work focuses on ancient harbors
and maritime activity. He is the author of over one hundred and twenty articles
on the ancient Near East and various Mediterranean studies. Professor Stieglitz
is the director of the undergraduate program (major and Minor) in Ancient
and Medieval Civilizations, and the minor program in Archaeology at Rutgers-Newark.
