The 21:350:465 Writing HTML for the Web class will meet on Tuesday, Sept. 11 in the usual classroom, Hill 104. We have the computer lab in Hill 124 reserved for us, but unhappily the lab rooms have been pre-empted for both Tuesday, Sept. 11 and Tuesday, Sept 18. We should be able to use the HIll 124 computer lab once on Thursday, Sept 13, and then regularly starting Sept. 20. I have made another computer lab arrangement for Tues., Sept 11 -- but please report to Hill 104 as before to start class that day. Reminder: there will be a very short quiz each Tuesday on our work of the previous week and on news in the press relevant to our course. A. Please bring to class each day, starting Tuesday, Sept 11: 1) The text, Elizabeth Castro, "HTML 4 for the World Wide Web," 4th edition (Peachpit, 2000), available on campus only at New Jersey books. 2) Your transfer disk containing all your course exercises and work. Initiallly, an IBM-formatted 1.44 high density 3.5 inch floppy disk will do well. All of our Windows computers also support CD-ROM disks, and most of them also support 100 MB Iomega Zip disks. 3) Printouts of all your work and exercises for sharing with the class. The raw code should be printed through a text editor; the resulting Web interpretation should be printed through your web browser. If your name does not appear on the printouts, please write it in. Once we are underway we will be able to see our work directly on the Web. B. In Castro, read the Introduction, pp. 11-20, and chapter I: HTML Building Blocks, pp. 21-29. Notice the following new tags discussed in ChapterI:

Put Your Heading 1 Here < /H1> < for < within HTML (assuming this email isn't HTML) > for > within HTML {") C. IMPORTANT: Be sure that you an active Pegasus account before class on Tuesday. You will need to have an account there and know both your username and password on Pegasus to do the work of the class. If you are not sure, test your account or seek help beforehand. You will not be able to do this during the class. The Pegasus account will be used to publish your web pages -- independent of where you get email -- which can be on Pegasus or elsewhere.
