![]() Modern art: 1890-1935: 19th century Neo-Impressionism and Japanese Prints influenced Fauvism (Paris. 1905), which led to Abstract Impressionism (Munich, 1911). Neo-Impressionism also influenced Futurism (Milan, 1910), leading to Abstract Dada (Zurich, 1916) and then Abstract Surrealism (Paris, 1924) and finally Non-Geometric Abstract Art -- meanwhile Cubism (1906) and Neo-Impressionism influenced both Fauvism and Cubism, leading by steps to Geometric Abstract Art. Note (in boxes) Japanese Prints, Near Eastern Art, Negro Sculpture, Machine Esthetic, and Modern Architecture. Joyce lived in Trieste (1904-14), Zurich (1914-20), and Paris (1920-41) Modernism: background readings: Wilson, Edmund.
