EMAIL, ORAL REPORTS, DISCUSSION THREAD, TERM PAPER

1. EMAIL

This email message will verify that the updated (Feb 9) class email address list is working.

A follow-up in class will try to determine if you:

  • 1) have a different email address you prefer
  • 2) do not regularly check email
  • 3) have not yet activated an account at Rutgers or elsewhere
  • 4) have an email addresses I can't match with your real name
  • 5) are attending class but are not registered
  • 6) are the victim of a Rutgers registration error

    2. CLASS PARTICIPATION IN DISCUSSION THREAD AND ORAL REPORTS:

Each class has an online discussion thread at a web site which is accessed with a web browser such as Netscape, Internet Explorer, or equivalents. Original postings there are structured chronologically, and the posted responses appear within the outline structure.

Study questions are posted for each series. Use them as suggested points of departure for your online postings and oral reports. But feel free to explore other topics that may interest you more. Your postings and oral reports should alway explore some idea or point -- never be mere summaries or commonplaces -- should strive to produce the most interesting responses from other students.

The four teams, which are all (or will become) about the same size, began this week, February 8, with Phase A. (Please make suggestions in class about these procedures.) Since the tasks of teams 1-4 will rotate through phases A-D, it will not matter where you begin -- eventually all teams will have the same assignments. See the team assignments chart below -- the schedules, topics, and team lists will be distributed separately.

The posting/report assignments are required and will be graded as part of your total work in the course. You should strive to achieve the best possible quality. Since these postings and reports were not part of the original work schedule, the number of assigned conventional short papers will be adjusted -- but will continue to be assigned.

    3. TERM PAPER:

If a term paper option is available in your class, you will be able to present oral and online proposals for class response in this manner on developing your ideas, research, and arguments.
