In a description of the notorious "Michelangelo" computer virus
panic that took place a few years ago, the U.S. Department of
Energy's Computer Incident Advisory Capability (CIAC), stated
that "many projections of potential damage were provided by
companies that make anti-viral software and stood to benefit
from the scare."
CIAC's "Internet Hoaxes Homepage" gives you the background
information required to avoid the hysteria surrounding
computer security and provides frequent updates to keep
you aware of any real hazards.
