This is just an informal reminder that Jennifer Levine and myself will be
putting together an edited collection on the theme of "Hysterical/Historical
Joyce". Also of particular interest would be essays dealing with modernity,
the cinema, the city. Obviously you can work up your presentation in essay
form, but there is no problem if you find yourself revising--perhaps based on
things you heard at the conference. Alternatively, you may submit an essay
not specifically based on your presentation if it has a tie in with the
themes I've mentioned. A working title for the collection is
Historical/Hysterical Joyce: Making It New in Modernity. We will mail out a
more formal request, soon. If interersted, please try to send NO MORE THAN a
one page abstract (not email this time; hard copy, since we will be showing
it to presses). In the abstract, try and demonstrate a bit how you tie your
essay in. This will help me start thinking about an introduction and
arrangement of the pieces which, in turn, will make the project look more
integrated to publishers. To help facilitate matters, please send a copy to
Jennifer Levine at Victoria College, University of Toronto, and me:

I hope you enjoyed the conference and had a safe journey home, and I look
forward to seeing you again, perhaps in Rome.
Best wishes,
Garry Leonard
