Text Book:   Calculus & Its Applications Books a la Carte Edition plus MyMathLab with Pearson eText -- Access Card Package, 14th Edition
You will need an access code for MyMathLab in order to do the required online homework problems. The code comes with a new copy of the book and not with used books.

Class times: Tuesday and Thursday, 10:00--11:20am in Ackerson 123. You are also assigned a recitation section (01, 02, 03, 04, or 05) which meets Fridays. It is important to know which section you are in. This information can be found on your class schedule. Attendance at recitations is equal in importance to attendance at lectures. There will be a quiz most Fridays.

Grading: 2 midterms 20% each
        quizzes    20% total
        online homework    10% total
        final exam 30% total

Course Objectives: The course is a rapid survey of Calculus. Starting with a review of functions, the course proceeds through the highlights of differential, integral, and even some multi-variable Calculus.

Important:  Basic Calculus is intended for students majoring in Information Systems, Business, Social Sciences, or Liberal Arts. It is not intended for students who will be taking Calculus I or further calculus courses. Students cannot receive credit for both Basic Calculus and Calculus I. Basic Calculus is NOT a preparation for Calculus I. If your major requires calculus courses beyond Basic Calculus, then this course is not for you!

Tutoring services and more are available in the Learning Center in Room 140 Bradley Hall (973-353-5608). Here is a link to their webpage.

Exams:  The exam dates are listed below. If you anticipate a problem, let me know during the first two weeks of the semester. It is important that you bring your Rutgers ID card to all exams. If you do not, you may not be allowed to take the exam. Make-up exams will be allowed only in extreme situations (e.g. death in the family, serious illness with a doctor's note) and I must be notified BEFORE the scheduled exam date.

Homework is very important! Homework will be completed online using MyMathLab. To register for MyMathLab, click on your section number and follow the directions: Section 01   Section 02   Section 03   Section 04   Section 05 . Important: the text book package won't be available in the bookstore until the second week of classes. By registering for MyMathLab you can get free temporary two-week access to MyMathLab and the electronic version of the text. Be sure to obtain the text book package before the free two-week period runs out.
