Outreach to High School Students

i). Participation in ACS SEED Program. PI has been mentored 2 minority high school students. A manuscript based on part of their results about “Fabrication of CdS nanowires with DNA templates on Si Circuits” is under preparation for publication. This year, another 2 minority high school students started the ACS-SEED research project in PI’s lab.

ii). High School Outreach. Starting from 2004, PI has actively participated in outreach programs with local high schools with predominantly minority students. Nanoscience demonstrations have been performed for Arts High (Newark city) (2004-2006). The demonstration extended to another high school, McNair Academic High School (nearby Jersey city), 22 and 40 high school students attended the demonstration in 2005 and 2006 respectively. PI will continue to develop more interesting demonstrations and have more high school students experience nanoscience through hands-on experiments. Summer research opportunities will be provided to the students who are interested in experiencing more nanoscience research.
