My friend John Stone, JOMARST1@aol.com, advises:

The degrees of D.Min, M.Th,Th.M.,and S.T.M. are all of the same level, professional post-graduate degrees. The "masters" are usually either old or given by old-fashioned places, or some such. The D.Min is something of a bastard, although not nearly what a JD is, see below. Most of these require about a year or two of post-grad study.

The degress of BD, STB, ThB, M.Div, J.D., LL.B.and MSW are all the same level degree, i.e., professional graduate degree. LL.B. is the "old" degree of which JD. is the new. BD, STB. Th.B., are all older versions of the now standard M.Div. In fact, my STB was rated at 90 semester hours, and included 12 non-credit hours for which credit is now given; the current requirement for an M.Div. is 72 semester hours, including those twelve. The '70's were not kind to theological education.

The College of Preachers is an institution at the National Cathedral which teaches preaching courses of one to six weeks duration. While the courses are sound, they are in no way academic in nature or content, nor are any credits given.
