"When communities become obsessed with putting rules, convention and tradition before people they become all too quickly conditional communities. And Churches are not immune from this tendency - far from it. It is one of the sadnesses of my ministry as Archbishop that I receive letters from hurt people who cannot understand why their child is refused baptism or why they cannot get married in a particular church. To be honest, there are times when I can't either. The gospel is incorrigibly reckless, irredeemably open and profligate in its generosity. And that reality leads on to the second concept I mentioned: after community, transformation-the transforming power of God's grace and love."

Most Rev. George Carey in his last sermon as Archbishop of Canterbury who has later clarified that it is "ridiculous" (i.e., 'deserving or inviting ridicule') for lesbians and gays to believe this applies to us.

re: Archbishop George Carey Supports Lesbigay Unions and Lesbigay Inclusion Regardless of the Rules

Dear Louie,

The quotation from Archbishop Carey's sermon is quite wonderful, but your Subject line saying that this constitutes support for "lesbigay unions and lesbigay inclusion in all churches regardless of the rules" is simply preposterous.

I asked the Archbishop to comment on your post, and this was his reply:

You can take it from me that is the last thing I was thinking of!!! Isn't it ridiculous?

I was talking about God's grace which receives us as we are! I had said a few sentences before that boundaries were in some cases essential! So do refute it firmly for me!

Warmly in our Lord,
