Saving bookmarks in Netscape

Saving bookmarks in Netscape

When you visit a site and think you might like to return to it, you can save a bookmark to it without even having to type its address. Hold down the icon to the left of the LOCATION window and drag it to the BOOKMARKS tab. Then put it into the location in your BOOKMARKS where you will most likely think to look for it when you want to return to the site.

On campus computers, you start with a fresh bookmark file each time, but you can replace that file with the bookmark file that you use all the time. To do so, you will need to learn a couple of features.

Under the BOOKMARKS tab, there is the option EDIT BOOKMARKS. That summons a new menu window, and under the FILE bar of that menu are two choices that give a clue to how this might work.

  1. SAVE AS allows the user to save the current bookmark file to a floppy
  2. OPEN BOOKMARK file allows the user to open a previously saved bookmark file from a floppy.

In that way, you can save your bookmark file to a floppy and then reopen it each time you want to add to it. Each time you will need to save the newly enlarged bookmark file back to you floppy before you leave Netscape.

These steps will save you an enormous amount of time as you use the web for your research in this course.

The EDIT BOOKMARKS option also allows you to move items around, delete, change names, etc. You can explore those options on your own.
