Louie Crew's Tricks:nn:Creating your own News Collections
Creating your own News Collections in nn
Study this command, entered from pegasus> or andromeda>:
nn -shypertext -m comp.all
'comp.all' makes NN search all groups beginning with 'comp.' [i.e., most
groups on the subject of 'computers.'
'-shypertext' tells nn to search for only those messages with the
string 'hypertext' in their subject line.
'-m' tells nn to merge all those into a special 'MERGED NEW GROUPS.'
When I tried this, nn reported:
Read 25073 articles in 49 seconds (42 kbyte/s)
and then took me to a standard nn menu for the 6 articles that it had culled
from those 25,073. Here's the screen print:
MERGED NEWS GROUPS: 6 ARTICLES
a herb chong 46 hypertext help
b Erik Naggum 65 >>[alt.hypertext] Re: Hypertext standards??
c R L Eberhardt 8 Hypertext
d R L Eberhardt 6 -
e Dr.Savory 11 >Hypertext Help for the ST
f Mike McConnell 10 Concept mapping with hypertext

Next I tried to find all the current news on hostages, with this command
from andromeda's main prompt:
nn -shostage -m clari.all
That one collected 11 articles from
MERGED NEWS GROUPS: 11 ARTICLES 3,520 current UPI postings in the 'clari.'
groups, and it did so in only 11 seconds.

For more information, enter this sequence to print a copy of the nn manual,
and fetch it from your bin.
man nn >nn.manual
print -P -tnn_Manual nn.manual
There are many more switches than those which I have illustrated here.
