Louie Crew's Tricks:telnet:Screen Captures
How to Capture Screens in the Labs with Telnet
Once logged into pegasus, and from any point thereafter, hit ALT-P to
have a chance to change your screen paramaters. Near the bottom you
will see "Capture file name *> xxxxx" Use the up/down arrow keys to
get to that item. Once there, hit ENTER to alert the program that you
want to change the file name. At this point, on many terminals, you
will not see what you type; type very carefully: G:\guest\louie
Once you hit ENTER again, you will see the name you have typed.
(Replace `Louie' with your own first name, up to 8 letters.) If you
do not see the drive, path, and filename you specified, type ENTER and
try to type it properly. You will not be able to use this feature if
the computer cannot access the proper file.
Once you have the proper filename, hit F1 to save your changes. That will
take you back to the screen you had before you made these changes.
Thereafter, anytime that you see a screen that you want to save in this
file, hit ALT-D to save it. Each save will be added to the other in the
file which you have named.
It is a good idea to test this feature before you spend time saving work
only to find out that it was not working. To test, use ALT-D to dump
a test screen to this file. Then use ALT-E to escape to MSDOS for a
moment. Once there (usually at the S: drive the first time you escape),
type G: to get to the proper drive. If on g: but not at the guest directory,
type cd \guest. Once at G:\guest, type dir louie (use your filename
instead). The file should be there and should show at least 1000 bytes.
Delete this test file (unless you want to save it). To end the test and
get back into Pegasus>, type EXIT
Enjoy cyberspace!
