Dear Louie

We have a number of homosexual people in ordained positions in this church.

I have sought to support them, and those not known to be homosexual, by
speaking and writing publicly about the need to acknowledge their place in
the church, the need to challenge prejudices, and the need to seek to
understand Scripture more clearly on matters of human sexuality and
specifically homosexuality.

Most recently I have commended to all who receive the Bishops' Monthly
Newsletter and my "comment" Paul Gibson's book "Discerning the Word" and
various Grove Books which seek to enlarge the vision of those trapped in a
position from which they know of no way forward.

This is in addition to pastoral relationships with individual homosexual
people, clergy and lay.
