Call for materials for anthology FloriDaDa

  • To: undisclosed-recipients: ;
  • Subject: Call for materials for anthology FloriDaDa
  • From: Editors Laura and Richard <floridada@gmail.com>

Dear Poets,

We are seeking submissions to a new, unique anthology that is
designed to represent the current state of poetry in, and inspired
by, Florida. This anthology, FloriDaDa, will favor the bizarre?which
is to say, normal?aspects of life in the Sunshine State. For this to
be most successful, we're seeking the best of your work--perhaps
unusual, perhaps experimental--related to this subject.

We hope to publish FloriDaDa with Rock Press as a book-length
paperback in the fall of 2008. Funds are quite limited for this
project, so a waiver of permission fees would be appreciated. Our
intention is to promote it at all available venues, such the Miami
Book Fair International, the annual A.W.P. conference, and any other
situation that allows us to be a public nuisance. We intend for this
to be the first volume in an occasional series of collections that
will give respected poets a chance to lead the way for writers and
readers involved with Florida as a creative crucible.
Why produce such an anthology? It's time for Florida poetry to
receive its due, not just as a conspiracy by coincidence but as a
distinct state of verse. Not enough readers see Florida for the deep
and wildly provocative context it can be. For this reason, we're
looking for original work that showcases the best poets in the
state--and the best poets affiliated somehow with the state--as you
capture whatever makes this sandbar with vegetation into fertile
ground for art. We're convinced that poetry is the optimal medium to
portray life in a region that strains the credibility of both fiction
and nonfiction. We expect our readers will agree with us.

There will be four categories for submissions:
1. Natives (poets actually born here)
2. Transplants (poets who moved here)
3. Passing Through (visitors or people who once lived here who have
written poetry about Florida)
4. Snow Bards (part-time residents)

Please submit your poems in reply to to this email address
by midnight, August1, 2008. Here's what we need you to do:
 * Send up to 5 poems in a single word document to
    Floridada@gmail.com
 * Put your name and email address on every piece.
 * In the subject heading of the email, state the category you are
submitting to, which means either Native, Transplant, Passing
    Through, or Snow Bards
 * In the body of the email, include a bio of no more than 100
    words.
 * Please also sign the attached document [below] and send it to: Richard
Ryal, P.O. Box 770925, Coral Springs, FL 33077-0925
In signing the attached document, you warrant that you are the sole
owner of the rights granted and that your material does not infringe
upon the copyrights or other rights of anyone. If you do not control
these rights, we ask that you submit another piece to which you
possess sole rights.

Your inclusion in FloriDaDa will help us bring honor to the community
of accomplished poets connected to this state. If at any time you
have questions, please don't hesitate to contact us. We'd also
appreciate you forwarding this email out to other appropriate poets
in the community.

Cheers,

Laura McDermott and Richard Ryal
