The Presiding Bishop's earlier private letter to me was circulated on this list by a third party. He has given me permission to share publicly his healing letter which arrived today (below). I am most grateful for his kindness and sensitivity to all.
My original personal report from Uganda appears at http://www.andromeda.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/natter/msg00058.html
Personal reports from others on the trip appear at the Commission's website, http://newark.rutgers.edu/~lcrew/scaai.html
The Commission will not issue our official report until January of 2003, for the BLUE BOOK for General Convention.
Please pray for the people of Uganda and the people of the Sudan.

Dear Louie,
I am very sorry that my private letter to you circulated by a third party has caused misunderstanding and hurt.
I am certainly aware that your commentary, upon the visit to Uganda by a sub-committee of the Standing Committee on Anglican and International Peace and Justice, was a personal point of view, and did not purport to be a report of the committee.
While I would never begrudge anyone their own point of view, or personal account of such a visit, I do think that this episode teaches us all to be particularly mindful of the way in which personal commentary can, when we hold office in the church, assume a near official status in some people's minds.
Bless you my friend, and please know how grateful I am to you for your ministry on behalf of our church.
Yours sincerely,
Frank T. Griswold
Presiding Bishop
