- This project demonstrates successfully that cold road
recycling, using
- foamed bitumen, is a cost-effective and quick technique for
repairing
- not only lightly trafficked roads, but also busy main roads
carrying
- approx 18,000 vehicles/day. Savings arise because there is no
need to
- quarry, coat or transport the new roadstone normally used in
- conventional road repairs; and there is less site excavated
material for
- disposal. The project was completed in 4.5 weeks, compared
with the
- 12-14 weeks conventional methods would have taken. Using data
from the
- TRL rotating census, the predicted loading over the 20 year
design life
- for the road in this project is 11 million standard axles.
Road tests
- after 15 months' service indicated a residual life of between
11 and 17
- years.
