The Alliance for National Renewal (ANR) brings together a network of people and organizations who want to better their communities. Living Democracy is what we call this broad awakening to the essential role of regular citizens in solving America's toughest problems. Millions are now learning that public life is not just for officials and experts, but part of a rewarding life for each of us. The Center's mission is to dramatically accelerate the emergence of Living Democracy. Civic Practices Network (CPN) is a collaborative and nonpartisan project bringing together a diverse array of organizations and perspectives within the new citizenship movement. They share a commitment to bring practical methods for public problem solving into every community and institutional setting in America. We assume the responsibility of telling our stories, so that all citizens may have the opportunity to learn from what others are doing to renew their communities. Institute for the Study of Civic Values This is part of a joint project of the Institute for the Study of Civic Values and LibertyNet in Philadelphia, aimed at helping neighborhood activists and organizations gain information and resources of use in solving community problems. The National Civic League (NCL) advocates a new civic agenda to create communities that work for everyone and promotes the principles of collaborative problem-solving and consensus-based decision making. NCL accomplishes its mission through technical assistance, publishing, research and an awards program. The National Commission On Civic Renewal The National Commission on Civic Renewal, made possible by a grant from the Pew Charitable Trusts, will include individuals across the political spectrum and from many different walks of life, all of whom have demonstrated leadership in their fields and a commitment to the betterment of our country. The purpose of the Commission is to assess the condition of civic engagement in the United States today and to propose specific actions -- to be undertaken by the public, private, and voluntary sectors as well as by individuals -- that could improve this condition. Prince William County Government Citizen Participation Page Prince William County offers a variety of ways for interested citizens to become involved in their local government. The following are many of these citizen-driven activities: Citizens' Time Prince William County citizens are invited to present their views on issues concerning the County government during Citizens' Time, which is held at the beginning of each Board of County Supervisors' meeting. The Institute is a 12-week citizens academy designed to give citizens hands-on, in-depth experience with their local government. The citizens who graduate from the institute gain in-depth knowledge of the County and may develop skills that are useful in their experiences with community organizations, neighborhood groups, or County boards and commissions. Teledemocracy Action News and Network Web site for the global democracy movement, which seeks to empower citizens to participate in their political systems. They are primarily dedicated to the creative use of electronic media in all forms that directly empower citizens to have meaningful input into the political system.
