Access Sarasota - Channel 19  FL

http://www.sarasotagov.com/InsideCityGovernment/Content/CAC/Communications/CommunicationsMain.htm

It is a jointly operated government access television station shared by the City of Sarasota and Sarasota County. A variety of programming is available, including meeting coverage, monthly shows, emergency coverage, bulletin board, and more

The City Auditor & Clerk's Office is charged with the operation of the City's Government Access Channel known as "Access Sarasota - Channel 19". The department currently consists of three personnel, and is responsible for the production and broadcast of all City Commission Meetings, Planning Board Meetings, and any meetings of special interest to the public. Along with meeting coverage, department staff also produce a variety of specialty programming which includes: two magazing-style shows, one talk-show, an employee of the month presentation, and public service announcements. Descriptions of some of the programming are provided below

City Life" is a monthly news-magazine style show featuring topics of interest in and around the City of Sarasota, not typically covered by the mainstream media. Each episode consists of a segment spotlighting a particular city neighborhood, a historical segment, various topical and/or informational stories, and a light-hearted segment called "Outside in Sarasota" featuring fun things to do outdoors in our City. "City Life" is action-packed, fast paced, and enjoys tremendous popularity in our community.

On Patrol with SPD" (Sarasota Police Department) is a bi-monthly magazine-style show dedicated to the services and activities of the Police Department. Each episode consists of a segment spotlighting one of the Police Department's Special Units, a "Most Wanted" segment, and "John's LIT " containing names of individuals arrested for soliciting prostitution, and a "Crime Tip" devoted to helping citizens protect themselves and their belongings from criminals. "On Patrol" is a fast-moving show portraying an often-neglected aspect of local government in a positive light.

City Focus" is a monthly talk show hosted by Sarasota's City Manager, which features an in-depth discussion of particular issues of importance to our government and its citizenry. Whether IT is water conservation or traffic calming, the goal is to give viewers the full picture of an issue that usually gets minimal coverage by the local media. The discussion is supported by relevant field-acquired video, to keep the show vibrant and avoid the talking-head stereotype. "City Focus" has been very successful in bringing much-needed information to the public in an entertaining fashion.

Access Tucson

Access Tucson programs three public access channels 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on the Cox Communications and Comcast cable systems. Over a hundred shows produced by local citizens are aired every week. Approximately 42 hours every week is live programming from our studios. And the program content is as diverse as our community. In addition to our regularly scheduled series', Access Tucson also provides the community with special programs in the form of remote productions, satellite feeds, funded programs and programs dedicated to non-profit organizations. Viewers can count on us to be a mirror of their community.
Public access television is the only forum where individuals can express their opinions and perspectives to the community through cable television. Access television provides the community an important venue for First Amendment rights, the right to free speech. Public access television makes the use of electronic media possible for many groups that are under represented, or not heard or seen at all in conventional broadcast television.

C-SPAN is a public service created by the American cable television industry:
To provide C-SPAN's audience access to the live gavel-to-gavel proceedings of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate, and to other forums where public policy is discussed, debated and decided--all without editing, commentary or analysis and with a balanced presentation of points of view;
To provide elected and appointed officials and others who would influence public policy a direct conduit to the audience without filtering or otherwise distorting their points of view;
To provide the audience, through the call-in program, direct access to elected officials, other decision makers and journalists on a frequent and open basis;

To employ production values that accurately convey the business of government rather than distract from it; and
To conduct all other aspects of its operations consistent with these principles.
