SPAA Alumni Network Event
November 16, 2011 | 6:30 - 8:30 pm
Rutgers University-Newark

Guest Speaker:
Cecilia Xie Birge

We invite you to the annual SPAA Alumni Network event on Wednesday, November 16, 2011, from 6:30 to 8:30pm in the Paul Robeson Campus Center at Rutgers-Newark.

Please join us for dinner from 6:30 to 7:30 pm when we will share the work of the steering committee to develop the mission and bylaws, create a mentoring program for alumni and current students, and promote new networking opportunities. We'll also have the instillation of our new officers.

From 7:30 to 8:30 pm faculty and current students will join us to hear Cecilia Xie Birge as our guest speaker. Ms. Birge's grandfather was the President of Beijing University during the "Cultural Revolution." When her family returned to China after Mao took over in 1949 to help their country, they were sent to a forced labor camp where she was kept until she turned 10 years of age. As a protester at Tiananmen Square, she narrowly escaped and then managed to get a student visa to the U.S., where she received a degree from Bryn Mawr. She went on to work on Wall Street and later became the first female Asian mayor in New Jersey. Her story is a compelling one you will want to hear.

As always, we are grateful to Dean Marc Holzer for his support of the new SPAA Alumni Network and his commitment of staff and resources to provide our annual event at no cost.

We hope you will join us on November 16th. Kindly RSVP your attendance to Jane Sharp at sharp@newark.rutgers.edu
