Who
are the Writing Center Tutors?
Tutors are undergraduate and graduate students, from a variety
of disciplines, selected to help students develop their writing.
Tutors maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or better, are recommended
by faculty, and participate in on-going training.
How
can tutors help students?
Students learn most if they engage in a variety of activities with
tutors, such as tutoring and workshops. Tutors can also help students
use the Center's web-site and library.
- Tutoring is an opportunity to develop writing and research
strategies, a committment to excel, free and fun.
- Tutoring is not a drop-off, editing or proofreading service.
- Tutoring is not a sign of weakness! In universities around the
world, tutors and their students pursue academic excellence together.
E-Tutoring
How
can e-tutors help students?
E-tutoring is a component of the Writing Center designed to support
the needs of University College students who often work full-time
and carry part or full-time course loads in addition to family responsibilities.
E-tutoring allows students to work with a tutor via e-mail and only
requires two meetings face to face – one meeting to get started
and one to evaluate progress after mid-term. Meeting times and e-mailing
schedules are flexible. If you would like to know more about this
opportunity call 973-353-5847 or e-mail nwc@andromeda.rutgers.edu.
