Design & Management of Computer Information Systems

Brief course description

Participants in this elective seminar traditionally bring extensive knowledge of computer fundamentals from prior courses and from professional exposure. The seminar aims to unite and reinforce this knowledge, in the early part of the term, and to extend it through discussions, readings, and term projects. This is a semistructured course the content of which varies from term to term. The overall outline of the course is
I. Integrate basic concepts; hardware, software, procedures, communications (approx. 2 weeks)
II. Explore DMCIS through class discussion and readings (6), and
III. Present results of comprehensive research projects (5)

Initial Homework
: (in addition to reading assignments and individual chapter preparations)

1 page paper on a Hardware topic; it may be summary of article from a trade journal or the daily press or a survey paper.
Start thinking about a project topic (see #3)

1 page paper on a Software topic; may be summary of article from a trade journal or the daily press or a survey paper.

C. Prepare a project proposal (Topic, brief description, sources to be tapped)

Do a DFD (data flow diagram) for a system of your choice as per our class discussion.
