A Board of Trustees was formed for GlassRoots, and planning grants were supplied by Rutgers University, the New Jersey State Council on the Arts, and the Prudential Insurance 125th Anniversary Fund. In August, 2001 we received our 501 ( c ) (3) status. The Geraldine R. Dodge Foundation and numerous other community and individual supporters have pledged to support our programming and the renovation project.
In the spring of 2001 GlassRoots began programming, providing lampworking (bead making) to a small group of Newark youth, within a studio space donated by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newark. A year later, GlassRoots officially opened doors from its permanent home at 10 Bleeker Street, Newark, where it was able to expand program offerings and where the GlassRoots 'Team' is now growing. This site is located in the heart of Newark’s downtown arts district.
