Summer Archeological Excavation in Portugal:

In the summer of 2001 Professor Robert Stieglitz and Elpidio Laguna-Diaz brought students to the Azores Islands and conducted a three-week archeological survey in order to locate and record evidence of early Portuguese settlements. The students on the project also spent a week in mainland Portugal touring relevant museums and institutes. The project was such a success that Professors Stieglitz and Laguna-Diaz were invited back to continue their work. The organization of an excavation on mainland Portugal (Algarve), where students could earn university credit by participating in a four week dig, is currently in the planning stages. More information will be available in January 2003 and will be posted on this site.
