| In 2001 four internships were created to grant
PLWS minors and majors the opportunity to earn university credit
while gaining valuable professional experience in Newark’s private
and public sectors. Rutgers-Newark juniors and seniors who are
pursuing a minor/major in Portuguese and Lusophone World Studies
may register, with permission of instructor, for any of the internships
listed below. Advanced Portuguese language skills are preferred
for all positions. Each
internship carries three credits, and fulfils one elective course
requirement for both the minor and the major.

(1 internship)
East Ward Councilman’s Office
(1 internship)
Portuguese American Congress
Student Internship:
The intern must be a full time undergrad or grad
student of portuguese
descent (i.e. at least one parent or grandparent or the student
themself
must have been born in Portugal or in a currently recognized commonwealth
of
Portugal). The intern must maintain a g.p.a. of at least 3.0. The
intern
shall report directly to the president and shall assist in a various
civic
activities such as naturalization and voter registration drives,
community
education, and fundraising events. Each year PAC attempts to assign
the
intern a "special project". For example, last year the
intern designed a
new brochure for our organization. Any interested students should

directly prior to December 14, 2002. The internship term shall be
from
January 2, 2003 thru August 30, 2003. A stipend of $2000 shall be
provided.
