What items should a new student bring?
The Residence halls are furnished with the basic necessities. Items brought from home, however, such as a television, computer (each room has satellite TV service and an internet connection), a stereo and decorations will give the room a personal touch. Linens are not furnished by the University. Students will need to provide sheets, pillow, pillowcase, blankets, towels, etc.
What telephone service Is available?
Rooms within Woodward and University Square have telephone lines. Incoming and local outgoing calls are included. Students will need a phone card to make long distance phone calls. Room telephones are not set up to receive collect calls and students have to bring their own phone. Talbott residents will need to contract their own phone service separately through Verizon.
Can I connect my computer to the residential network?
Computer network connection is available for all students in all residence hall rooms and University apartments, providing 24 hour access to services such as the Internet. For further information regarding recommended computer hardware and software, please call (973) 353-5083.
Do students have to remove all belongings from the room during breaks?
The residence halls do not close during Thanksgiving, Winter, or Spring break. Once your particular contract ends you must promptly move out of the residence halls. Exceptions or extensions can be made with the consent of the Area Director for your residence hall.
Can students move off campus?
Students are not required to live on campus, but the University is not responsible for off campus housing or responsible for the off campus postings on our web site that is done by the third party.
Is the campus safe at night?
Rutgers has an escort service provided by the Rutgers University Police Department (RUPD). Escort services are available to walk with you anywhere on campus, at anytime. Students just need to call extension 5581 to get an escort. Emergency phones, identified with a blue light, ring directly to public safety are located throughout campus.
What is my address for my hall and how can I receive packages from home?
Packages can be shipped through the U.S. Postal Service or commercial delivery service. Packages and letters should be addressed using the following format:

Where Does My Dog Live?
Although you may think that Fido may not cause any problems, he must remain at home, but feel free to decorate your room with pictures of his adorable face.
Can I have A Friend Visit Or Stay Overnight?
Guests are permitted anytime during the week provided that they are registered in the building and do not exceed the three days a week. Refer to the Guide to Residence Life for more specific information.
