The Department of Sociology and
Anthropology at Rutgers University
in Newark is a small, dynamic collection of real individuals, equally
dedicated to the pursuit of scholarship and excellence in teaching.
Although our students are
primarily undergraduates of extremely diverse backgrounds, members
of the faculty also participate in several graduate programs. While
the department is made up of Sociology and Anthropology, our
interests are multidisciplinary. Topics investigated by the department
members include, but are by no means limited to, Native Peoples
of North and South America, sociological theory, genocide, social
movements, urban immigration, India, Riots, Globalization, War,
Solitude, Ethnicity, Urban Archaeology, Southeast Asia, Race, the
New York Police, Social History, Comparative Delinquency, Anthropological
film and video, Puerto Rico, Education, Gangs, Modernism, and much
more
It is a friendly department,
where big school scholarship combines with small school personal attention
and care.
