Crime Statistics Report from 1997-2004

This report provides the first set of comprehensive detailed statistics on crime in Uganda.  Each section opens with a "Fact Box" which condenses the most important information from the full data sets.

Statistical Abstracts

"The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) as the agency responsible for providing quality official statistics that support evidence-based planning, decision making and monitoring development programmes, publishes a Statistical Abstract annually. The annual series of the statistical abstract presents information derived from the latest surveys, censuses and administrative records of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs)."

Human Rights

Annual Reports to Congress on Human Rights Practices - Uganda
These reports, produced by the U.S. Department of State, to the U.S. Congress. The law provides that the Secretary of State shall transmit a "full and complete report regarding the status of internationally recognized human rights, within the meaning of subsection (A) in countries that receive assistance under this part, and (B) in all other foreign countries which are members of the United Nations and which are not otherwise the subject of a human rights report under this Act." Reports on several countries are included that do not fall into the categories established by these statutes and that thus are not covered by the congressional requirement. The reports cover internationally recognized individual, civil, political, and worker rights, as set forth in the Univeral Declaration of Human Rights. (website).

Annual Reports to Congress on International Religious Freedom - Uganda

These reports, produced by the U.S. Department of State, describe the status of religious freedom in Uganda, government policies violating religious belief and practices of groups, religious denominations, and individuals, and U.S. policies to promote religious freedom around the world. It is submitted in compliance with the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998.

Ugandan Human Rights Commission - 11th Annual Report (2008)

"The report covers the activities undertaken by the Commission in the year 2008, in fulfilment of its constitutional mandate to promote and protect human rights in the country. These include: Human rights promotion and outreach; investigations and resolution of complaints; inspection of places of detention; UHRC position on the Bills coming before Parliament; and Finance and Administration. In addition, the report gives an assessment of the state of human rights for the period in review, with regard to the human rights implications of human sacrifice, road accidents and school fire outbreaks; human rights issues in the return, resettlement and reintegration of internally displaced persons; the rights of ethnic minorities; the right to health; human rights and HIV/AIDS; and freedom of the media. The report further highlights Government's compliance with the Commission's previous recommendations."

Juvenile Detention in Uganda: Review of Ugandan Remand Homes and the National Rehabilitation Centre

"Following an introductory overview of juvenile justice in Uganda, the report deals with the following subjects: profile of children in conflict with the law, safeguarding children, juvenile justice system, conditions of detention, healthcare, education and training, andcommunity reintegration. The report makes 36 recommendations, and ends with a conclusion which notes areas of good practice as well as elements which require immediate attention, including a suggestion that an independent auditor be employed to ensure that the welfare of the children in conflict with the law in Uganda is upheld."
