Rutgers Road to Wall Street Program 2016

Fast-paced, competitive, financially and intellectually rewarding - - all describe a Wall Street career. Landing a job on the Street, however, requires intense focus from the early days of undergraduate life, as the bulk of hiring is completed in the fall of junior year when firms choose candidates for highly coveted summer internships.

Rutgers University undergraduates benefit enormously from the school’s proximity and ties to Wall Street whether it be via part-time internships, networking opportunities, or frequent alumni presentations. But, due to the timing of interviews, individual preparation is critical to gaining a successful role on the Street.

The Rutgers Road to Wall Street Program is designed to boost the preparation skills for a select group of approximately 50 students who demonstrate strong interest in and knowledge of financial markets. For the first time, participation in the program will require completion of a three-credit course taught in the spring term of sophomore year. The participants will also be paired with an alumni mentor currently working on Wall Street who will provide invaluable guidance and networking contacts and will also be asked to grade a portion of his/her coursework during the term. This year’s cohort will consist only of sophomores in order to maximize the training timeline leading up to the critical fall interview season.

Rutgers New Brunswick and Newark undergraduate students with a keen interest in the financial markets and Wall Street careers are encouraged to apply for this exciting program. Application details and program requirements are below.

Student Testimonials:

“Participating in the Rutgers Road to Wall Street Program is a great way to move ahead of the competition and learn about career opportunities at top firms. Students, like me, have exclusive access to on-campus interviews, various networking events, and vital business contacts. My mentors also contributed to my career development. They encouraged me to create a list of the skills needed to succeed and the professionals that I should to meet. Throughout the program, I reviewed that list periodically and set goals for myself.

Going forward, students who successfully complete the program can also enjoy the pleasure of helping the next group of participants. I strongly urge all interested individuals to give this program your full focus and fully immerse yourself in the program, network with others, and learn about the various career paths in your field. ”

“The Road to Wall Street Program has impacted my future career plans in an incredible way. Through the access to networking events, employer site visits, and other career development events, I formed a concrete idea of the steps I needed to take to achieve my future goals. One of the most beneficial aspects for me was the mentor relationship formed when I began the program. My relationship with my mentor has allowed me to fully differentiate between the various career path options and lessened my uncertainty about how to get there. My mentor has been a source for advice on all things career-related. This relationship is more valuable because it can be sustained long after the length of the program. Overall, this program has been extremely helpful in developing professional skills and obtaining crucial knowledge for starting a career on Wall Street.”

“The Road to Wall Street program is a perfect stepping stone for any student interested in a career on Wall Street. The program offers many different opportunities to students not typically available such as access to top alumni and site visits to some of the largest banks in the world. I believe the most beneficial part of the Road to Wall Street program is the mentoring you receive from alumni. Mentors can be an excellent resource to help students figure out what they want to do with their career and ultimately how to achieve success.”
